Few editors have technical scientific knowledge as well as excellent written communication skills. KJM can help you to communicate your message in print by:
- considering your target audience
- understanding your needs as a client
- bringing a sound grasp of the topic
- conveying your message with clear and simple language
- paying consistent attention to detail.
As a Communication Manager and consultant, KJM has extensive experience in writing for websites, editing and managing production of large documents such as Annual Reports, producing promotional material, writing information packs and articles, and liaising with the media.
KJM has worked as a senior member in teams editing suites of documents such as the Northern Australia Water Resource Assessment for CSIRO and the Guide to the proposed Basin Plan for the Murray–Darling Basin Authority. KJM’s roles have included establishing Word templates and style sheets, managing workflow, reviewing the work of other editors, liaising with graphic designers and checking proofs. KJM is familiar with following the Australian Government Style Manual.
“Karen worked for us on the Northern Australia Water Resource Assessment (NAWRA), a $15 million, 2.5 year program commissioned by the Australian Government and led by CSIRO. This high-profile project comprised the most integrated, multidisciplinary investigation of opportunities for water and agricultural development in northern Australia ever conducted, with involvement of over 100 scientists from multiple organisations.
As part of a team of about five editors, Karen was involved in editing and formatting over 40 reports and media products produced by NAWRA, ranging from highly technical, scientific reports of several hundred pages, to shorter summaries and media outputs. This involved expert understanding of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
Karen’s work was consistently of a very high quality. She rapidly understood what was required, gave realistic expectations of timeframes for delivery of her work, quickly learnt any new Word- or Adobe-specific skills required, and always delivered quality outputs. She was willing to work additional hours to fit in with the gruelling reporting production schedule demanded of the project.
Karen’s ability to work effectively and efficiently with many others and competing demands in a high-pressure, challenging environment was commendable.”
